"How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world, That has such people in't!" And how beauteous will the Fall be as Shakespeare Dallas rounds out its 2016 season of Shakespeare in the Park with The Tempest.
The Tempest, directed by Shakespeare Dallas' Artistic Associate René Moreno, tells the tale of the exiled Duke of Milan, Prospero, and his daughter, Miranda, who have been abandoned on an island. Spurred on by revenge, Prospero causes a violent storm to shipwreck those who betrayed him. The arriving castaways include Prospero's brother Antonio, King Alonso of Naples, and the king's son Ferdinand. Miranda and Ferdinand immediately fall in love, but are caught in Prospero's net of revenge as he gathers all his enemies onto the island.
The role of Prospero will be performed by T.A. Taylor. Taylor, who heads the acting department at KD Studio College in Dallas, is one of Shakespeare Dallas' most prolific actors, having been a part of the company's productions for more than 30 years. Dagny Sanson, a recent graduate from Southern Methodist University, stars as Miranda.
Performances will run Wednesdays to Sundays at the Samuell Grand Amphitheatre, Sept. 21-Oct. 1, and Oct.6-16 at Addison Circle Park. All performances begin at 8 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the gate or online. Additional information is available online at www.shakespearedallas.org or 214-559-2778.
Inspired by the egalitarian nature of the New York Shakespeare Festival, Robert "Bob" Glenn started The Shakespeare Festival of Dallas in 1971 as a free summer Shakespeare Festival. The company serves the community as one of North Texas' most treasured cultural institutions and the area's only producer of an education program focused on teaching Shakespeare. In 2005, the company revamped its operations and branded the organization "Shakespeare Dallas" to illustrate the company's new direction of year-round, affordable and accessible programming. Shakespeare Dallas aspires to use the works of William Shakespeare as a catalyst for creating unparalleled artistic and educational programs that are meaningful and enriching for the community it serves throughout North Texas.
