Shakespeare Dallas has been awarded a $35,000 grant by The Arts Community Alliance (TACA), Dallas' premier umbrella arts organization providing financial support, stewardship and resources to area arts groups. In a record fundraising year, TACA announced at its annual Grant Awards Presentation on Jan. 9 that it has allocated $1.5 million in grants to diverse and deserving North Texas performing arts organizations in 2017.

The majority of the grant money will be distributed to 49 local performing arts organizations of all sizes and artistic genres, including theater, music, dance and collaborative partners. The remaining dollars will be distributed through TACA's two Artistic Excellence Funds. According to Wolford McCue, TACA's new Carlson president and executive director, "For the 10th consecutive year, TACA will distribute more than $1 million in grants to the performing arts community to help build a vibrant and culturally strong city. TACA's grants will support about 3,000 performances and productions that more than one million people will attend."

"We feel very fortunate to be recognized by TACA with this substantial grant," said Raphael Parry, Executive and Artistic Director for Shakespeare Dallas. "2017 will be a strong programming year for Shakespeare Dallas, with two premier Shakespeare productions, and an adapted performance of Quixote. We will also be completing our 5th and final season of the Complete Works readings. The TACA grant will help support our efforts to enhance our programming each year and continue to bring the works of Shakespeare to a broader and more diverse community audience."

In addition to the $35,000 grant, Shakespeare Dallas has also received the Bowden Embrey ResidenCy Grant from TACA, which will support the residency projects for Octavio Solis, playwright of Quixote, and Gustavo Tambascio, who will direct Octavio's adaption of Quixote for Shakespeare Dallas this summer. Quixote will run this summer on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from June 21 - July 21 at Samuell Grand Amphitheater.
