The 2016 Shakespeare in the Park season opens with She Stoops to Conquer, and will be directed by guest director Mason York. In the play, Mr. Hardcastle, a wealthy countryman, hopes to arrange a marriage between his daughter Kate and Charles Marlow. Although he is the son of a rich Londoner, Kate realizes she will have to pretend to be 'common' for Charles to fall for her. A practical joke leads to misunderstandings that must be resolved before Kate's plan can succeed. Performances at Samuell Grand Amphitheater run June 15-18 and June 29-July 22 every Wednesday - Friday.
Richard III is the second production in the 2016 Shakespeare in the Park season, directed by guest director Stefan Novinski. The play chronicles the short reign of Richard III of England, who uses his skills in deception and manipulation to take the throne from his brother. As the commoners begin to loathe their ruler, a challenger to the throne invades England and promises a new era of peace. Performances at Samuell Grand Amphitheater run June 22-24 and June 25-July 23 every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.
The 2015 Shakespeare in the Park season closes with The Tempest, directed by Artistic Associate Rene' Moreno. The sorcerer Prospero, rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place. By creating a storm, the eponymous tempest, he lures his uprising brother Antonio and King Alonso of Naples to their island. After lessons are learned and true character is revealed, Prospero succeeds with the marriage of Miranda to Alonso's son, Ferdinand. The production opens with performances at Samuell Grand Amphitheater on Sept. 21-25 and Sept. 28-Oct. 1, and will conclude with performances at Addison Circle Park Oct. 6-9 and Oct. 12-16.
Performance times for She Stoops to Conquer and Richard III begin at 8:15 p.m., and The Tempest begins at 8:00 p.m.
