Co-Artistic Directors Chris LaBove and Steven Walters have announced Second Thought Theatre's 2011-2012 Mainstage Season, its eighth season as a professional theater company. The Artistic Team for the 2011-2012 Season includes Chris LaBove, Drew Wall, Steven Walters, Matt Gray and Lee Trull in addition to others.
The season begins with Pluck the Day by Steven Walters, A Night of Theater and Music. Straight off its New York premiere at The Araca Group, this revamped version of Pluck the Day will feature live music by local Dallas musician Greg Schroeder. Matt Gray will direct the comedy, which stars Clay Yocum, STT Co-Artistic Director Chris LaBove and STT Co-Founder Mike Schraeder, who appeared in an earlier version of the play at Second Thought Theatre in 2003 in Frank's Place in the Kalita. Performance Dates: February 3rd – February 26th, 2012. The Story: Duck's drunk, Fred's been eating peyote again and Bill's not as gay as they originally thought he was. On a sun drenched, emotionally challenged parcel of the West, Texas landscape, three friends are held captive by addiction, fear and apathy as they wait for salvation. Enter April.
Next is The Midwest Trilogy by Eric Steele, A Night of Theater and Film. STT will partner with the Texas Theater to present this exciting event that will include short films and live performances of Mr. Steele's trilogy. Dallas Theater Center's Lee Trull will direct. Performance Dates: March 15th – April 8th 2012 The Story: Conceived and written by the Texas Theatre's own Eric Steele, the Midwest Trilogy centers around three separate but indirectly linked stories that take place in the heartland of Corporate America.
Finally, the season will close with Bomb-itty of Errors by Jordan Allen-Dutton, Jason Catalano, GQ and Erik Weiner, music by J.A.Q, A Night of Shakespeare and Hip-hop. Performance Dates: June 22nd – July 15th 2012 The Story: This musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors uses the timeless words of the Bard, a fresh perspective from today, and hip-hop music to tell the story of Shakespeare's famous comedy.
"This is more than a season of great theater. With our return to Dallas, this is our welcome home party. We're throwing it for ourselves. And everyone's invited," said Steven Walters.
"Last season, Steve and I felt we needed to make a strong statement. We wanted the season to pack a punch, and perhaps even sting a little. We were trying to say, 'STT is still here and we aren't going anywhere.' This season has a different objective. We're going to laugh, we're going to dance, we're going to rap, and we're going to have a hell of a good time," said Chris LaBove.
All shows in STT's 2011-2012 Mainstage Season will be performed in Bryant Hall on the Kalita Humphreys Campus, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd Dallas, TX 75219. To make a donation, become a member, buy tickets or to find out more information, please visit www.2tt.co
