Marvin just wants everyone to be happy. But that's harder to do since he's left his wife and son to be with the man he loves in Falsettos, the Tony Award-winning musical at Runway Theatre Sept. 25 through Oct. 182015.
Falsettos, with music and lyrics by William Finn (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and book by Finn with James Lapine (Into the Woods), is a pairing of Finn's one-act musicals March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland. The production revolves around Marvin as he grapples with his family's dysfunction and personal flaws during the early years of the AIDS health crisis. A mix of family drama and witty comedy that Frank Rich of the New York Times called "exhilarating and heart breaking," the musical is considered to be a musical theater benchmark for its candid depiction of a gay relationship and the specter of AIDS.
The show, which won Tony Awards in 1992 for Best Original Score and Best Book, will be revived on Broadway in spring 2016.
Directed by Lon Barrera and Tyler Jeffrey Adams with musical direction by Rebecca Lowrey and choreography by Christina Kudlicki Hoth, the Runway Theatre cast includes David Lewis, Brendon Gallagher, Stephanie Felton, Ben Phillips, Jennifer Kuenzer, Ashley Renae Markgraf and Matthew Vinson.
Runway Theatre is located at 215 N. Dooley St. in Grapevine.
