Rover Dramawerks will present the farce Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer, opening on Thursday, September 1. Performances will be at the Cox Building Playhouse, 1517 H Avenue in Plano (next to the Courtyard Theater), continuing through September 24, with shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., plus an additional matinee performance on Saturday, September 10 at 2:00 p.m.

Lovesick and desperate, sculptor Brindsley Miller (played by Christopher Sykes) has embellished his apartment with furniture and objects d'arte "borrowed" from Harold Gorringe (Charles Maxham), the absent antique collector next door, hoping to impress his fiancée Carol (Meghan Miller), her pompous father (Tom McWhorter), and a wealthy art dealer (JohnK Wright V). The catch? A blown fuse has plunged the apartment into darkness...just as said neighbor arrives home. Unexpected guests (Rachel M. Carothers and Laura Cutler), mixed up cocktails, and the flame of a single lighter impede Brindsley's frantic attempts to set things right before light is restored by the overworked and underappreciated electrician (Manuel C. Cruz). The International Herald Tribune describes Black Comedy as "Pure hilarity."

The show is directed by Rover regular, Lisa Devine, with Monica Ruiz as Assistant Director/Stage Manager. Jeff Mabray is set designer, Paul McKenzie is costume designer, David Gibson is lighting designer, Richard Frolich is sound designer, and Terrie Justus is properties designer.

Black Comedy is the final show in Rover Dramawerks' 11th Season. Tickets are $16.00 on Thursdays and matinees and $20.00 on Fridays and Saturdays and may be ordered online at www.roverdramawerks.com. Thursday, September 1 is Preview Night, and all seats are "pay-what-you-can" at the door. Season ticket packages are also available for Rover's upcoming 12th Season.

Season sponsors include the City of Plano, the City of Richardson, Plano Arts and Cultural Endowment, and Texas Commission on the Arts. For more information, please call 972-849-0358 or visit www.roverdramawerks.com.
