Alley Theatre will produce the Sherlock Holmes mystery The Crucifer of Blood during its popular ExxonMobil Summer Chills series. The perfect summer outing for Houstonians seeking a cool respite from the summer heat, ExxonMobil Summer Chills is a great way to introduce live theatre to first-timers, giving them an opportunity to thrill in suspenseful moments and unexpected revelations.

The Crucifer of Blood, by Paul Giovanni and Directed by Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd, begins performances Wednesday, July 15 and runs through Sunday, August 16 on the Hubbard Stage.

In The Crucifer of Blood two murders and a treasure of jewels lead to a blood oath and an uncanny mystery that the master detective must solve before more fall victim. Amid fog-shrouded London in 1887, Holmes and Watson confront danger and an ingenious villain intent on making a curse come true. The story opens thirty years earlier in India, when the treasure is first discovered. This exotic and thrilling mystery driven by greed, deceit and murder is recommended for teens and adults.

The Crucifer of Blood is based on the characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and adapted from his novel The Sign of Four. The play opened on Broadway, directed by Paul Giovanni, at the Helen Hayes Theatre in 1978.

The Crucifer of Blood features Alley Theatre Resident Company Actors Jeffrey Bean as Major Alistair Ross, James Belcher as Mohammed Singh/Hopkins/Mordecai Smith, James Black as Captain Neville St. Claire, Elizabeth Bunch as Irene St. Claire, Justin Doran as Wali Dad/Birdy Johnson, Chris Hutchison as John Watson M.D., Philip Lehl as Jonathan Small, John Tyson as Durga Dass/Inspector Lestrade, and Todd Waite as Sherlock Holmes.

The design team of The Crucifer of Blood includes Scenic Design by Kevin Rigdon (Alley's Mauritius, Secret Order, The Unexpected Guest ), Costume Design by Blair Gulledge (Alley's The Santaland Diaries, Underneath the Lintel), Lighting Design by Rui Rita (Alley's Eurydice, A Christmas Carol, Cyrano de Bergerac), Sound Design by Pierre Dupree (Alley's The Man Who Came to Dinner, The Santaland Diaries, Secret Order) and Dramaturg Lauren Halvorsen (Alley's The Farnsworth Invention, The Man Who Came to Dinner).
