Outcry Theatre returns from a two-year hiatus to produce My Name is Asher Lev by Aaron Posner, adapted from the novel by Chaim Potok. The company has spent the last year focusing on their new division, Outcry Youth Theatre, which has produced eight shows over the past year.

My Name is Asher Lev follows the journey of a young Jewish painter torn between his Hassidic upbringing and his desperate need to fulfill his artistic promise. When his artistic genius threatens to destroy his relationship with his parents and community, young Asher realizes he must make a difficult choice between art and faith.

Playing the lead role of Asher Lev is 18-year-old Bryce Lederer, an Outcry Youth Theatre student about to graduate from high school.

On being cast in this role, Bryce Lederer said, "This is simply a dream come true. My Name is Asher Lev is a story that I hold near and dear to my heart, and doing theatre with Becca Johnson-Spinos has made me who I am. My training with Becca over the last five years in youth productions has culminated into this show, and I am thankful for the opportunity to tackle such an important tale as I prepare for adulthood."

In an appropriate bit of casting, his father Aryeh Lev will be played by Bryce's actual father, Eddie Lederer. Eddie also plays the other adult male parts, including painter Jacob Kahn. Kimberly Winnubst will play all the adult female parts, including Asher's mother Rivkeh Lev.

The show is directed by Artistic Director Becca Johnson-Spinos, stage managed and assistant directed by Jason Johnson-Spinos, costume designed by Gabrielle Grafrath, and the dramaturg is Tia Sukenik.
