Performing Arts Fort Worth proudly welcomes the family-friendly show, The National Acrobats of the People's Republic of China, to Bass Performance Hall on Monday, October 10, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $27.50 and are on sale NOW!
Performers from The National Acrobats of the People's Republic of China bend, contort and stretch their bodies in seemingly unimaginable ways. In other words, don't try this at home!
Performers dance ballet - on each other's shoulders. They spin plates on sticks - while bending over backward. They balance stacks of cups on their hands and feet - on top of someone's head.
In 1950, The National Acrobats of the People's Republic of China became the first national performing arts troupe established by the government of the People's Republic of China. Over the years, the company has won several awards for its don't-try-this-at-home spectacular feats of fancy.
Those awards include the PresidentiAl Gold Award at the 24th Cirque de Demain Festival in Paris and the Golden Clown Award at the 28th Monte Carlo International Circus Festival.
Based in Beijing, China, the company has its own institution for acrobatic schooling, training and repertoire. There, more than 500 students of all ages study the art and nuances of Chinese variety art, from plate-spinning to intricate contortion acrobatics.
The group's appearance at Bass Performance Hall is part of its first-ever North American tour. Audiences have already been wowed in more than 40 other countries, including Italy, France, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Portugal and Spain.
