The Music Hall is set to welcome the National Tour of the Broadway hit MEMPHIs for a one-night-only performance on May 24.
Set in the 1950s, MEMPHIS challenges all levels of the Southern status quo at the time. The show proves that love knows no race, and follows no social construct during the early Civil Rights era in Tennessee - and neither does music. Inspired by the legendary DJ Dewey Phillips, MEMPHIS has been hailed as much of a societal commentary of the 50s as much as a rock musical.
MEMPHIS opened on Broadway in 2009, where it was nominated for 8 Tony Awards. It went on to win four, including Best New Musical. In addition, it was nominated for 10 Drama Desk awards in 2010. MEMPHIS continues to run on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre.
