President and Executive Producer Wally Jones is thrilled to announce that Mr. Popper's Penguins will kick off the 2017-2018 Children's Theatre season, presented by Regions and sponsored by Frank Kent Cadillac.
Painter and decorator by day, Mr. Popper spends his time dreaming of Antarctic adventures. He is astounded when one day a packing crate arrives on his doorstep and a penguin waddles out! With original songs and performing penguin puppets, this delightful, action packed musical adaptation of Richard and Florence Atwater's popular book (also made into a Hollywood film starring Jim Carrey) is the perfect family treat for ages 4- 104! This show is suitable for all audiences.
Mr. Popper's Penguins stars Kirk Bixby as "Mr. Popper" and Amanda Joy Loth as "Mrs. Popper." Rasheem Ford and Kelly Blaze round out the cast as ensemble and puppeteers. Noah Putterman, Casa's Director of Children's Theatre, will recreate Mr. Popper's Penguins with the Casa Mañana creative team: Tammy Spencer (costumes), Samuel Rushen (lighting), Kyle McCord (sound) and Catherine Petty-Rogers (hair, wigs, makeup).
Following the three-week run at Casa Mañana, Mr. Popper's Penguins will depart for the First National Tour, produced by Casa Mañana and sponsored by Neiman Marcus. The tour will travel from coast to coast with a two-week run at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC over the Christmas holiday.
Mr. Popper's Penguins was adapted for the stage by Pins and Needles Productions with original music by Luke Bateman and lyrics by Richy Hughes. The original London West End production was directed by Emma Earle and designed by Zoe Squire with puppets designed by Nick Barnes, sound by Jason Barnes and lighting by Ric Mountjoy.
