Amphibian Stage Productions today announced casting for its second staged reading of the 2014 season, Lebensraum by Israel Horovitz. Luke Longacre, Brian Mathis and Alexandra Lawrence will star in this drama, running Sunday, June 8 and Monday, June 9 at Amphibian's theater at 120 S. Main Street. Lisa Devine will direct the reading.
Luke Longacre last appeared on Amphibian's stage in the 2013 mainstage production of The Bible: The Complete Word of God (Abridged) by Nigel Planer. Brian Mathis was last seen on the Amphibian stage in 2011 for the staged reading, Inventing Van Gogh by Steven Dietz and Alexandra Lawrence returns this season after her delightful performance in Bank Job by John Kolvenbach.
Using a cast of three to play 40 sharply-drawn characters, this bold work of penetrating intelligence is based on the fanciful, explosive idea that a German Chancellor might, as an act of redemption, invite six million Jews to Germany and promise them citizenship and jobs. A resulting scenario unfolds that explores the effects of the policy on Jews and Gentiles around the world and asks the question, "Could history repeat itself?" "Powerful and touching." - The New York Times
Lebensraum will be performed on Sunday, June 8 at 2pm and on Monday, June 9 at 7pm at Amphibian Stage Productions.
Tickets for Lebensraum are $17 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $7 for students.
