- Today, Jubilee Theatre's artistic director, Tre Garrett, announced the final production of the theatre's monumental 30th Anniversary Season.
Once On This Island, a mythical tale of star-crossed lovers, will preview on the Jubilee Stage July 22 and run through August 21. A jubilant, musical retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid, Once On This Island explores the courage of love against all odds on a Caribbean island where Ti Moune, a poor peasant girl, falls in love with Daniel, an upper class boy.
This production will be Tre Garrett's directing debut at Jubilee Theatre. "Once On This Island, fifteen years ago, was my first professional show and holds a very special place in my heart, which is why I've chosen this wonderful musical for my Jubilee directing debut," said Garrett. Tre's announcement is available to view on Jubilee's website and here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxZFLn0MeUk.
Auditions for Once On This Island will be held at Jubilee Theatre on Saturday, March 19 from 1pm - 5pm. These open auditions will also be used to cast for the 2011 - 2012 season of shows, so all interested talent is encouraged to attend. More information regarding auditions is available at www.jubileetheatre.org/subpage.php?sid=33.
Starting in April, Jubilee Theatre will begin hosting acting classes for actors of all skill level, ages 15 and up. Classes will be held the first and third Monday of the month at 7pm on the Main Stage at Jubilee. Tre Garrett will teach the first classes: Monday, April 4 - Breaking Down the Craft and Monday, April 18 - Living in the Moment. No reservations are necessary, and classes will be taught for a suggested $5.00 donation.
