Dallas area playwrights are invited to attend the first meeting of The Playwrights Forum being held on Sat., Jun. 27 at 12 noon at the Bishop Arts Theatre Center, located at 215 S. Tyler St. in Dallas.

All subsequent meetings will take place at the Bishop Arts Theatre Center location due to a generous donation of meeting space by TeCo Theatrical Productions. Meetings are tentatively scheduled for the last Saturday of each month.

The goal of the Playwrights Forum is to assist playwrights on the early developmental stages of the new play process. Playwrights will be provided with a safe place to craft the next great American play.   The Playwrights' Forum is an ideal group for more experienced writers looking to write that play they have been dying to write but are too scared to approach for all the usual reasons writers put off writing. The Playwrights' Forum can also be a great place for first time playwrights to explore the art of writing for the stage.

While The Playwrights Forum is supportive of a writer's efforts towards actual production, the organization will remain focused on development only. Meetings will follow a book club format 3-4 playwrights submitting up to 30 pages of a play they are writing via email each month. The group will read each submission and then will meet once monthly to give feedback and encouragement. Other activities include impromptu readings, fun writing exercises, and "Gripe sessions!"

To RSVP for June 27th meeting or if your are unable to attend but would like to learn more, email Jonathan Norton at nortonj@smu.edu or by telephone at 214-694-8755 (day) or 214-768-8254.
