If you see a spunky, red-haired little girl around downtown Arlington soon, follow her to Theatre Arlington and be prepared to be entertained as she is none other than Junie B. Jones, star of Barbara Parks' New York Times bestselling book series. Creators Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich add music and lyrics to create this delightful "world according to Junie" in Junie B. Jones The Musical JR., opening Friday, February 22nd. Graduating from kindergarten seemed like a breeze, but now it's time for first grade, which can be very intimidating, even for someone like Junie. Losing your best friend to someone else. Making new friends on the school bus. Breaking in a new home room teacher. And what if you need to (gulp!) ...wear glasses?! No worries, our heroine Junie B. and her all her first-grade wisdom is getting it all figured out in her own unique way. If you're lucky she might even let you read her "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal!"
Theatre Arlington places a high priority on the educational components of all its programs and the production of an all-youth musical is integral in this mission. Junie B. Jones The Musical JR. is professionally directed, choreographed and musically directed, however every onstage performer and backstage crew member are between the ages of 8 and 18. This delightful musical also offers field trip opportunities with 4 daytime performances for area school children at the Theatre on March 5th and 6th.
Theatre Arlington's production of Junie B. Jones The Musical JR. is directed by Cindy Honeycutt, TA's Education Director and new Business Manager by day. Music Director, Daniel Hernandez, and Choreographer, Nik Blocker, also add their talents to this sassy and fun production. The 18 and under cast includes Kylie Kimball as Junie B. Jones, Isaiah Robinson as Daddy, Kiera McDonald as Mother, Lucy Chambers as Lucille, Milly Chambers as Camille, Graces Sims as Chenille, Mallory Brinkley as Grace, Claire Donnelly as Ms. Woo, Lyla Gonzalez as Bobbi Jean Piper, Maxton Sims as Herb, Gabrielle Smith as May, Corrigan Jones as Lennie, Roman Perez as Jose', Brent Kirkland as Mr. Scary, Connor Moss as Sheldon, Molly Chakery as Shirley, Sophia Drago as Mrs. Gutzman with Ensemble members, Ryley Chambers, Allessandra Gonzalez, Ace Rainey, Nelly Jimenez, Brynlee Carroll, Katrina Holland and Zoe Robinson
Production team members include Kaitlyn Mier (Stage Manager), Kenzie Stone (Assistant Stage Manager) Bryan Stevenson (Set and Lighting Designer), Bill Eickenloff (Sound Designer), Angie Glover (Scenic Artist), Cathy Pritchett (Properties Designer) and Karen Pierce-Burks (Costume Designer).
Junie B. Jones The Musical JR. is sponsored by the Downtown Arlington Management Corporation and will open on Friday, February 22nd. A post-show reception with the cast and crew will immediately follow the show. The reception is being sponsored by J. Gilligan's Bar & Grill and will include dessert provided by Cooper Street Bakery, the official bakery of Theatre Arlington.
Performances will continue through March 10th with our youth production show schedule:
Fridays at 7:30pm
Saturdays at 2:00pm & 8:00pm
Sundays at 2:00pm
This show is appropriate for ages 3 and up.
