Fort Worth Opera (FWO) proudly announced today the news that legendary Mexican ensemble Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán will be prominently featured in the company's 2019 production of El Pasado Nunca se Termina (The Past is Never Finished). Called "The Best Mariachi in Jalisco," this phenomenal group from Guadalajara, México, was founded in 1965 by José "Pepe" Martínez, the late director of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, and his brother Fernando Martinez.

Over the years, they have toured the globe and accompanied artists such as Ely Guerra, classical crossover singer Filippa Giordano, and Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriters Natalia Lafourcade, Lila Downs, and Alejandro Sanz. The band has released around 80 albums spanning six decades, and has been featured in over 70 productions, performing for the recordings of other ranchero artists.

"We are honored to work with Fort Worth Opera, playing the music of yet another beautiful creation of my uncle Pepe," said Angel Martínez Arreguín, director of Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan, La Excelencia de México. "It is always gratifying to collaborate with companies that promote Mexican music and culture, and support Latin artists. We are sure it will be an unforgettable experience."

Broadway director Leonard Foglia and José "Pepe" Martínez's stunning bilingual family drama will surely be one of the highlights of the 2019 Festival, and Fort Worth Opera is excited to feature one of the world's most sought after mariachi bands in this powerful production at Bass Hall.
