This October, House Party Theatre is back with a dark, supernatural thriller cooked up in their new play development wing: SHADOW WOMAN. A brand new horror play imagined by Dallas playwright Claire Carson, SHADOW WOMAN will bring to the stage the shock, thrill, and camp featured almost exclusively in the film landscape of the past several decades.
This world premiere will incorporate movement, spectacle, and visual storytelling to immerse us in the world of Arrah Andrews (Bella O'Brien), a 17-year-old girl living alone with her father and her tabby cat Lucifer (Gracie Cuny). Arrah and her father finally move into a new house and for a moment, life starts to feel normal again. She's ready to head back to high school, enjoy her Dad's wholehearted attempts at pizza, and hang out with her best friend, Rachel (Dakota Ratliff). Soon Arrah realizes there's something in the house no one but she and her cat seem to notice. Then she wakes up with The Bruises on her wrists.
Throughout the play, Arrah goes to life-defining war on two fronts: a dark struggle against a powerful supernatural presence threatening to destroy her and her family from the inside out, and a simultaneous battle against the package-deal fears that accompany being female in today's maelstrom of a world.
Performances will be held at the Bath House Cultural Center Underground on the lower level of the BHCC by White Rock Lake. The Bath House has been an icon in the Dallas arts community since 1978 and it continues to nurture and develop new works from artists of all walks to provide a place to bring diverse programming and cross-discipline originality to audiences who keep coming back. Consistently rated as one of the Top Attractions in the DFW Metroplex, the Bath House presents a galvanizing new stage for House Party Theatre's dark, action-packed horror story.
Directed by Jenna Hannum, SHADOW WOMAN begins with a press opening on Saturday, October 14th at 8pm and continues its run on October 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28. All tickets are $15.
