BroadwayWorld's High School Center is proud to showcase high school performance programs around the country in our weekly feature of 'High School in the Spotlight'.

This week's featured program is the Theatre Department at Memorial High School in Houston, Texas!

The theatre program at Memorial High School has a solid foundation in creating great theatre experiences. We offer a full season featuring at least one musical each year. We also compete in UIL One-Act Play competition and are part of the ComedySportz High School League.

Our programming allows both students interested in performance and technical theatre to gain the information necessary to enter college and succeed. Students gain classroom experience through our four levels of classes in both acting and technical theatre and a variety of theatre performances and design opportunities.

MHS Theatre students have received state and National Theatre scholarships through the International Thespian Society and can be seen performing all over the United States. We have had numerous students advance to the international level with International Thespian Society held each summer at the University of Nebraska campus and have been invited to perform on the Main Stage.
Students have also received Tommy Tune Nominations for their ensemble, tech and individual work with wins in the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor categories. MHS students have also been seen at the Jimmy Awards held on Broadway honoring the best in high school musical from around the US. We have performed for Texas Thespians, SBISD and at the International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh Scotland.

Memorial High will next present SOUTH PACIFIC on February 21-23, February 28, and March 1-2. The true story RADIUM GIRLS will close the production year on May 2-4. For tickets and more information, click here.
