Uptown Players have announced a one-day only special event written and performed by Sam Harris entitled HAM: The Show, which will take place on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 4 p.m.
Sam Harris has enjoyed a highly successful multi-faceted career, first as the original "American Idol" on Star Search, then as a Tony nominated Broadway star, platinum recording artist, sell-out concert artist, popular telvision actor, talk show favorite and writer for television and the stage. Sam's concert appearances have been driven by his iconic voice and singular musical interpretation, but he has long incorporated comic monologues into his shows, garnering praise for his "New Yorker worthy" (The New York Times) personal stories and hysterically unique perspective. In preparing for the launch and promotion of HAM, Sam had the idea of creating a new format - a hybrid theatrical show in which stories from the book are read, artfully interspersed with relatable songs from his classic repertoire.
Sam's first literary effort, a humorous and often poignant collection of stories and essays, entitled HAM: Slices of a Life, will be on sale at the event through a special arrangement with Half-Price books. In it, Harris delivers a mixture of tales touching on everything from his childhood, growing up gay in rural Oklahoma, to his celebrity life, including BFF Liza Minnelli and others, to his role as husband and father.
This concept is a fresh and innovative evening of theatre, starring the man about whom Rolling Stone Magazine wrote, "forever redefined the genre of popular music and all those who have come after," about whom Oprah Winfrey raved, "can make Jesus walk through the door!"
The performance is Sunday, February 16 at 4 p.m. at the Kalita Humphreys Theatre, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd (at Blackburn), Dallas, TX 75219. Tickets are $20-$40 and can be purchased online at www.uptownplayers.org or by phone at (214) 219-2718.
