TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. Dramatized by Christopher Sergel from the book by Harper Lee. Production runs Sep. 25 thru Oct. 11, 1009

  • Synopsis: Scout, a young girl in a quiet southern town, is about to experience dramatic events that will affect the rest of her life. She and her brother Jem are being raised by their widowed father, Atticus, and  a strong-minded housekeeper, Calpurnia. Wide-eyed Scout is fascinated with the people of her small town, portrayed with the sensitivity and innocence Scout perceives in them. However, from the start there's a rumble of thunder just under the calm surface of life here. Atticus, a lawyer, explains that he's defending a young Negro wrongfully accused of a grave crime. He goes on to prepare Scout for the trouble to come. "We're fighting our friends. But remember this, no matter how bitter things get, they're still our friends." Things do get bitter. . .so bitter that Atticus props himself in a chair against the cell door of the man he's defending and confronts an angry mob. The result of Atticus' legal battle is part defeat, part triumph and fully a reminder of the light of justice in dark times.

THE CHRISTMAS SURVIVAL GUIDE: A MUSICAL REVUE. Conceived and written by James Hindman and Ray Roderick with musical arrangements by John Glaudini. Production runs Nov. 27 thru Dec. 20, 2009

  • Synopsis: This revue takes a wry and knowing look at a stressful time of year. Armed with a copy of A Christmas Survival Guide and an optimistic attitude, the characters charge into an urban holiday landscape searching for the true essence of Christmas. As shown through songs and vignettes, they learn to cope with the season in ways that are both hilarious and heartwarming.  Filled with comedy, poignancy, and traditional songs of the season, this show is designed to de-stress and refresh one and all with holiday cheer!

DEATHTRAP by Ira Levin. Production runs Jan. 22 thru Feb. 7, 2010

  • Synopsis: Seemingly comfortably ensconced in his charming Connecticut home, Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a "dry" spell which has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college-a thriller which Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit. Sidney's plan, which he devises with his wife's help, is to offer collaboration to the student, an idea which the younger man quickly accepts. Thereafter suspense mounts steadily as the plot begins to twist and turn with devilish cleverness, and with such an abundance of thrills and laughter, that audiences will be held enthralled until the final, startling moments of the play.

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. Production runs Mar. 12-28, 2010

  • Synopsis: The Futrelle Sisters-Frankie, Twink, Honey Raye and Rhonda Lynn-are in trouble again. This time, the problem is bigger than ever: their beloved hometown, Fayro, Texas, is in danger of disappearing, and it's up to the sisters to save it from extinction. Honey Raye and her former nemesis, Geneva Musgrave, come up with a possible solution.  Honey Raye tells a representative looking to relocate a manufacturing plant  that on the very weekend of the rep's visit, the town just happens to be having their biggest celebration of the year: "Fayro Days," which includes a craft show, a pet costume parade, a beauty pageant and a huge Civil War battle reenactment. So now it's up to the citizens of Fayro to quickly make her promises a reality. As if that weren't enough of a dilemma, the residents of Fayro are distracted by personal problems: an unwilling groom, gambling problems, a mid-life crisis,  marauding children, and an inconvenient corpse. Despite the many obstacles, how the Futrelle sisters and the other citizens of Fayro pull together and save their town is a testament to Southern strength and ingenuity-and a recipe for total hilarity.

GETTING SARA MARRIED by Sam Bobrick. Production runs Apr. 30 thru May 16, 2010

  • Synopsis: Sara Hastings is an unmarried lawyer in her mid-thirties, much too busy to get involved in any romance. Her Aunt Martha has decided to take matters into her own hands and find Sara a husband. Unfortunately, Aunt Martha's method of husband-hunting involves having the prospective groom bopped over the head and brought to Sara's apartment. Aunt Martha's choice is Brandon Cates, a young man who handles her finances. Although Brandon is already engaged to be married, this does not deter Aunt Martha. After being bopped on the head a few times, having a temporary loss of memory, experiencing several instances of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and enduring a confrontation with a very angry fiancé, Brandon slowly comes to realize that Sara is really the girl for him.

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS. Music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. Production runs Jul. 9 thru Aug. 1, 2010

  • Synopsis: If you thought you knew the story of "The Princess and The Pea," you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken's love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or that, in fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides some side-splitting shenanigans.

DEPARTURE SERIES, two original one-act plays by local playwright Ron L. Chapman. Reel Men: The Fitzhugh Brothers and We Love You Doris Day. One director is needed for each show. The production runs Aug. 13 thru 22, 2010.

  • Reel Men Synopsis: Brothers always seem to know how to push each other's buttons; sometimes, though, they'll push each other in unexpected ways. Meet the three Fitzhughs: separated for most of their adult lives but now reunited for a fishing trip.  Amid life's little disappointments and honest tragedies, they each bring a distinctive brand of brotherly - and sometimes scatological - humor. As Andy, Rich, and Walter try to sort out what went wrong and where they've been, they discover even more about what went right and what the future holds.
  • We Love You Doris Day! Synopsis: Add together a bungling burglar, a meddling mother, a mischievous husband, and the crazy crowd of the Doris Day fan club and you get a rollicking laugh-fest.  There's nothing the ladies of the Doris Day fan club love more than...Doris Day.  From quoting famous lines to dressing like their idol, these gals can't think of anything they'd rather do or anyone they'd rather be. When an uninitiated interloper tries to spoil their fun, the ladies band together to foil his plans.
