Country music artist and 2018 Grammy nominee, Jack Ingram will join local media personalities for the 2017 Last Relay Team Running, a contest that helps raise money for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, the lead beneficiary of the 2017 BMW Dallas Marathon, Half Marathon and SMU Cox School of Business Relay, Sunday, December 10. Keeping with the tradition of this contest, the relay team will be the very last to start the race and will aim to pass as many runners as possible as they make their way to the finish line, raising money for each runner they pass.

This is the fifth year of the contest, which has taken various forms since it started in 2012, including last year's Last Woman running with local meteorologist Colleen Coyle. Each year, local celebrities participating in the competition raise donations for their run from the back of the BMW Dallas Marathon starting line. SMU Cox School of Business Relay participants follow the same course as the BMW Dallas Marathon, with each of five team members completing a four- to six-mile segment of the 26.2-mile race course.

The 2017 Last Relay Team Running includes:

  • Jack Ingram, Country singer
  • Corby Davidson, The Ticket
  • Matt Howerton, WFAA
  • Mark "Hawkeye" Louis, KSCS-FM New Country 96.3
  • Janelle Brandom, WFAA, DayBreak

Jack Ingram ran his first marathon 12 years ago and since then has maintained a consistent training schedule, even while touring. In fact, Ingram has been known to have his tour bus drop him off several miles away from the concert venue where he is performing and then run there before a show. Last week, Jack Ingram received a 2018 Grammy nomination for, "Tin Man" a song he wrote with Miranda Lambert and Jon Randall.

Davidson and Hawkeye competed in last year's Beat The Press challenge, which originated after their 2015 Dallas Marathon relay team finished eighth overall. Since then, Davidson and Hawkeye have worked with the Dallas Marathon to encourage more people to be involved in friendly competitions on race day.

This is Janelle Brandom's first time participating in the Last Relay Team Running, but second time racing in the BMW Dallas Marathon, she participated in the half marathon in 2016. Brandom is the Social Media Anchor for WFAA's DayBreak program and is looking forward to documenting her race day experience on her own social media channels.

A Texas native, Matt Howerton, a reporter with WFAA, is used to running in the unpredictable Dallas climate. This is his first year participating in the BMW Dallas Marathon.

"We're grateful to have such a fun, positive group of people participating in this year's Last Relay Team Running challenge," said Paul Lambert, president of the BMW Dallas Marathon. "We expect runners will enjoy racing alongside a team they recognize from listening to their local radio stations or tuning in to the morning news."
