On Saturday, September 30, from 10:00A.M.-3:00P.M. at the Stone Cottage Theatre in Addison, FunHouse Theatre and Film and The Basement will present Working Workshops, a duo of workshops geared towards young actors who want to make the leap into professional work.

Tackling both getting work as a professional stage actor and as a professional film actor, the workshops are designed to present information in a tandem fashion to give kids and young adults, ages 10-18, a knowledge of the landscape and what they need to know to get paid, professional work as an actor, right now.

On the stage side, three of the area's most hirable young actors will present a peer to peer workshop, "Acting on Professional Stages," covering the process of professional theatres in casting, what young actors need to know about auditioning and their experiences on how to get cast at major professional theatres, now, in a fun, informative format focusing on getting the job done when it comes to getting the job.

On the film side, acclaimed stage and film actor, Joey Folsom will lead "Survey of Professional Film Acting." All based on how to understand it before you land it, Folsom will present a look at what types of paid on-camera work are out there for young actors and provide valuable information for those seeking representation, or those who already have it and want to book more work, on what casting agents are looking for with each type, how to audition for each and more in a fast based and informative presentation providing the foundational information that makes a difference when it comes to young actors being bookable.

Bren Rapp, President of Fun House Theatre and Film and the designer of the day of workshops sites the need for empowering young people with this type of information to truly be successful when venturing out in the world of paid acting work.

"As a foundational step often skipped, this is the information that puts everything, including all future training, no matter where it is given, into context. You have to understand what exactly you are going after in order to successfully achieve it and rarely are young actors given this perspective directly and right off the bat. Instead they leap into all the different sorts of training and classes and workshops, educational productions, you name it, that espouse different approaches and philosophies to acting without an understanding of how and what to apply it to. That's what these workshops are about, the frame of reference that can give young actors an edge in the market."

THE WORKSHOPS:

Acting on Professional Stages: 10:00a.m.-12:00p.m.
A unique, FREE, peer to peer workshop taught by Tex Patrello, Kennedy Waterman and Doak Rapp, (aged 16-18), will focus on how to get cast and start working in professional productions from the unique perspective of young actors who are doing just that. Collectively this trio has worked at some of DFW's most respected professional theatres including: Shakespeare Dallas, Kitchen Dog Theater, Uptown Players, Second ThoughtTheatre, Watertower Theatre and Stage West. They also are founding members of their own theatrecompany, The Basement, most recently seen mounting a production as part of The Festival of Independent Theatres and have all received professional awards and accolades for their work at Fun House Theatre andFilm. Through a fun and entertaining workshop consisting of real talk to "kids" from "kids" really doing it, topics covered will include: finding out about auditions, the different types of auditions, picking audition material, working with sides, what to expect in the audition room, script analysis and making choices with your audition, scene work in auditions, making adjustments/taking direction in auditions, call backs, the casting process and what to expect as a young actor when you do get cast in a professional show.

Survey of Professional Film Acting: 1:00p.m.-3:00p.m.
Awarded film and stage actor Joey Folsom teaches young actors seeking representation, or those who have it and want to book more work, what they need to understand before they land on camera roles. In this comparative look at the different types of commercial, TV and film acting, Folsom who can currently be seen in the film Camera Store on Netflix and is racking up Best Actor awards at film festivals both domestic and international for his lead role in the SCI-FI thriller Cronus, will cover the different types of on-camera work and the requirements for successfully auditioning for each type, as well as teach young actors the in's and out's of working with sides, cold readings, having confidence in the audition room, appearing natural on camera, successfully submitting tape and more, geared at laying the foundation for making those bookable choices that result in getting cast. All presented from a unique, both sides of the table approach by not only an actor who has appeared in numerous films, commercials, series television and more but an industry professional who has also served as writer, producer, director and technical advisor on various film projects. $115.

Fun House Theatre and Film is a benchmark in youth acting training and theatrical productions in DFW. Having received every professional award a theatrical Production Company can receive in the area and frequently reviewed by critics even though their works feature children, their students can be seen frequently on professional stages across DFW and are often represented by the area's top agents and cast for on-camera work. The Basement is a subsidiary company of Fun House Theatre and Film founded and run by young adult actors from Fun House who, after appearing in numerous award-winning shows and receiving critical acclaim for their work, formed their own Production Company to continue their artistic development. Started in 2017, the company has a full production and an appearance as a presenting company in a professional theatre festival under its belt with its next production scheduled for January 2018.
