Casting is now complete for the upcoming production of ELEMENTAL: Nature's Rhapsody. Alex Peters takes on the role of a young man struggling with the harsh realities of literary rejection while coping with the loss of his father. Currently in his first year of training in Musical Theatre at the Guildford School of Acting in the United Kingdom, Alex will return to North Texas next spring to play "The Poet" in Adam Adolfo's ELEMENTAL: Nature's Rhapsody which is debuting in April at the AT&T Performing Arts Center as part of the Elevator Project series. After previously working with Adolfo on Theatre Arlington's Legally Blonde: The Musical, Peters interned in the Music Department on Dallas Theater Center's production of HAIR.
"Alex has a focused intensity on stage with impressive vocal power," says Adolfo. "It will be very intriguing to see him tap into that energy to play a poet that is searching for his own artistic voice. I know that Alex is going to inspire."
Joining Peters is youth actor Stephen Newton as his child spirit counterpart. A familiar face to audiences at Bass Hall, Casa Mañana, and The Firehouse Theatre, he has been seen on stage playing Jim Hawkins in Plaza Theatre's Treasure Island, Smee in Peter and the Starcatcher, Dill in To Kill A Mockingbird, Gavroche in Les Miserables, Young Will in Big Fish, and Billy in Frosty The Snowman. "The Spirit of The Poet was not originally part of the production" offered Director Adolfo, "But I could not shake the idea that Stephen could offer special commentary in this production. He's a very soulful actor despite his age."
Alex and Stephen join the previously announced Alexandre's "Broadway on a Tuesday" host Kimberly Oliver as "Mother". "When I set out to create a show for the AT&T Performing Arts Center Elevator Project, the production was to feature only 16 people. That projection has grown to what will end up being a cast of 25," offered the Director / Producer. "We have singers, dancers, musicians, fire breathers, jugglers, gymnasts, a roue cyr artist, and a fire spinner in an ensemble of individuals that are so much more than a typical chorus. I call this core an Assembly... an Assembly of Artists." This Assembly includes Fatima Austin, Joe Bartke, Austin Ray Beck, Aaron Cummings, Devin Hall, Matt Holmes, Celine Se-in Kim, Christopher "Topher" Krieger, Victoria Lee, Ania Lyons, Courtney Mitchell, Asaf Mor, Rodney Morris, Jonah Munroe, Mindy Neuendorff, Rare Orion, Summer Perin, Nathan Scott, Kenady Shope, Kristin Spires, Kiba Walker, Justin White.
ELEMENTAL: Nature's Rhapsody will have 3 performances on Friday, April 20, Saturday, April 21, and a special "Earth Day" performance on Sunday, April 22. All performances are at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are now available online at www.attpac.org, by telephone at 214-880-0202 or in person at the AT&T Performing Arts Center Winspear Opera House Box Office at 2403 Flora Street. The Box Office will open 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and before performances - closed Saturdays and Sundays.
ELEMENTAL's central allegory follows "Mother" and her children (Fire, Water, Earth, and Air) and how they influence a young "Poet" to create his masterpiece. The two characters of "Mother" & "Poet" travel on a parallel journey through the elements discovering their power and beauty while trying to identify the fifth element, 'aether' - the basis of life and creativity, the spark of creation.
This is the third season of the Elevator Project and the first time one of its productions is staged outside under the stars on the Donor Reflecting Pool. The production, directed by Adam Adolfo, is staged on the Donor Reflecting Pool in Sammons Park at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Austin Ray Beck serves as Assistant Director and Choreographer. Musical direction is by Kristin Spires with new vocal arrangements, also by Spires. The production features Lighting Design by Kyle Harris & Sound Design by Mark Howard. Adam Adolfo also serves as Costume Designer.
The Elevator Project is a series of performances by Dallas-based arts groups, presented on the AT&T Performing Arts Center campus. The series provides performance space in the Dallas Arts District to local talent, while giving audiences exposure to the vibrant arts scene around them. Drawing from all genres of performing arts, the projects are chosen through an annual submission process and curated by an independent panel of arts professionals. The Elevator Project was created in 2014 by the AT&T Performing Arts Center and is presented with support from the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs.
