The esteemed Fort Worth Youth Orchestra (FWYO) will celebrate its 53rd Season Finale at Bass Performance Hall on May 20, 2018, featuring special performances from each of its four ensembles. Participating in the worldwide celebration of 'Bernstein at 100,' the FWYO will commemorate the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein by performing popular orchestral arrangements of his compositions: Overture to Candide and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. In addition, guest soloist Pui Ying Wong and the Youth Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky's formidable Violin Concerto. The FWYO's String Orchestra will also perform an arrangement of a selection from West Side Story.

The Fort Worth Youth Orchestra's finale performances celebrate one of its most successful years as our community's premier organization for young, aspiring musicians. The FWYO's 53rd season included several milestones, featuring the announcement of its 2020 Tour to Spain -- an initiative offering the Youth Orchestra the opportunity to share music and cross-cultural experiences with young musicians from other parts of the world.

This successful year also welcomed Youth Orchestra alumnus and newly-appointed Associate Conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Alejandro Gómez Guillén as guest conductor of the annual Side-by-Side Concert. The FWYO also participated in several community performances at Cook Children's Medical Center, Kimbell Art Museum, Clearfork Farmers Market, Mayfest, and more.
