Denton Community Theatre (DCT) is proud to present the last show in its 45th anniversary season, Big River - The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Directed by John Evarts and Pete Kelly, this musical re-telling of Mark Twain's classic American story boasts a large cast and a score of country and blue-grass music. Music direction is by Arturo Ortega.
In pre-Civil War Missouri, vagabond child, Huck Finn longs for adventure. He runs away with escaped slave, Jim and the two of them travel on the mighty Mississippi River. They encounter some unsavory characters on the journey and Jim ends up re-enslaved on a farm. Huck is soon joined by his best friend, Tom Sawyer, and they devise a plan to free Jim. Tom ends up getting injured in this escapade and Jim sacrifices his freedom to make sure that Tom gets to a doctor. All ends well when it is discovered that Jim has been granted his freedom by the woman that he had run from. An all-American adventure with lively music to guide the way! Please note - historically authentic language.
