Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow's Denton roots run deep. Denton was a favorite stomping ground and hideout for the notorious pair and their crew, going all the way back to Clyde and his brother Buck Barrow's youth. Throughout the first half of the Great Depression, Bonnie and Clyde staged multiple robberies and heists in downtown Denton. Dallas and Denton County law enforcement were involved in one hell-of-a car chase that passed through the Denton Square.
Fifty years ago Denton's Campus Theatre (a state-of-the-art movie theatre of the time) hosted the southwestern premiere of the movie, Bonnie and Clyde. Several of the film's stars were in attendance at the red carpet event. Denton Community Theatre (DCT) is thrilled to celebrate that history by producing the musical version of the dramatic story for the Campus stage (now a performing arts venue). Directed by Daniel Bryant-Gawne, assisted by Kristen Brasher, musical direction by Benjamin Brown and choreography by Amanda Guerrero, this promises to be a fitting tribute and an exciting production.
Fearless, shameless and alluring, the Tony-nominated Bonnie & Clyde, from the legendary Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, Civil War, Dracula) is the electrifying story of love, adventure and crime that captured the attention of an entire country. Bonnie & Clyde is a thrilling and sexy musical with a non-traditional score, combining blues, gospel and rockabilly music. This show contains violence, adult themes, and brief coarse language.
