Denton Community Theatre is proud to present the The Night of the Iguana, by Tennessee Williams. The production is directed by Dennis Welch and features DCT veteran actors Sean Frith, Sharon Barnhill, Amber Bryant, Jeannene Abney, Jim Hardcastle, Kenneth Sewell, Rachel Tillman, and Mark Jadrych. The cast is rounded out with very talented newcomers. Set design by Gail Crump takes audiences deep into the lush jungle on the coast of Mexico.

This powerful drama takes place in 1940 with former minister, Reverend T. Lawrence Shannon, now a tour guide with a second-rate tour company on the verge of his second nervous breakdown. He brings his tour group of Baptist women, led by the uptight Miss Fellowes, to a cheap hotel on the Mexican coast. The place is owned and managed by the lusty Maxine Faulks, widow of one of Shannon's oldest friends. Shannon's charges have turned against him due to his indiscretion with an under-aged member of the group. A colorful hodgepodge of characters including a German family, a strangely proper spinster, Hannah Jelkes, who scrapes by selling portraits, and her ancient grandfather who is struggling to compose his life's last poem are other travelers at the steamy establishment. Like the Iguana, captured and tied to a pole by the Mexicans in the play, the Reverend and Miss Jelkes have come to the end of their rope. A bond is formed between the two as Miss Jelkes sees Shannon struggle with his inner demons. Her gentle refinement intertwined with her strength of character become an inspiration to the floundering Shannon.
