Auditions for The Night of the Iguana, will be held April 18 & 19 starting at 7 pm at the Campus Theatre, located at 214 W. Hickory Street in downtown Denton. The Denton Community Theatre production is directed by Dennis Welch.

This powerful drama was written by Tennessee Williams and is set in 1940. Former minister, T. Lawrence Shannon, works as a second rate tour guide. Shannon is on the verge of his second nervous breakdown when he brings his tour group of young women and their chaperone to a cheap hotel in the Mexican jungle. The place is owned and managed by the widow of one of Shannon's oldest friends. His charges have turned against him due to his indiscretion with one of the under-aged members of the group. A colorful hodgepodge of characters including a strangely proper spinster, Hannah Jelkes, who scrapes by selling portraits, and her ancient grandfather who is struggling to compose his life's last poem are other travelers at the steamy establishment. The human bond between Miss Jelkes and Rev. Shannon provide the focus for this powerful show.

Auditions are open - no appointments - and will consist of cold readings from the script. Resumes and headshots are encouraged, but not required. If you are unable to attend the auditions, or have other questions, contact director Dennis Welch at welchdk@gmail.com.
