Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) has announced that its inaugural ANGEL Award, DSM's newest award and highest service honor, will be presented posthumously to the families of Charles S. Sharp and Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler at the annual 2018 DSM Gala, An Evening With The Best of Broadway, taking place on Nov. 3.

Created by DSM this year to honor the work of engaged and dedicated volunteers and philanthropists, the ANGEL Award is presented to individuals whose exemplary commitment serves as inspiration in the furtherance of musical theatre and DSM's community and education programs.

Because of their outstanding service to DSM and the Dallas arts community, the award will henceforth be named in their honor as the Charles S. Sharp and Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler ANGEL Award.

Charles and Ruth's dedication to DSM and its mission was demonstrated through their leadership within the organization over the years. Charles served as president of DSM for more than 10 years, from 1963 to 1977, and then as president and chairman from 1978 to 1982. Simultaneously, Ruth served as president of the Dallas Summer Musicals Guild from 1963 to 1965 and remained active in the Guild through 1966. In 1983, both Charles and Ruth were named Honorary Chairs, a role Ruth held until 2017.

"Dallas Summer Musicals is honored to recognize Charles S. Sharp and Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler with the ANGEL Award for their exceptional service to our organization throughout their lifetime," said current DSM President Kenneth T. Novice. "Their exemplary commitment helped shape DSM into what it is today, and we are humbled to be able to name our highest service award after them as we continue to walk in their legacy."

Novice and Gala Co-Chairs Cara Owens and John R. Clutts will present the ANGEL Award to the families of Charles and Ruth on Nov. 3 at its annual Gala, An Evening With the Best of Broadway, an entire night dedicated to showcasing DSM's commitment to arts education and community outreach programs.
