A self-proclaimed 'gypsy troupe' with Theater Productions staged in various D/FW locations, including Tucker's Blues, a popular music venue located in Deep Ellum, Dallas, DVA Productions, Inc. is finally laying down its artistic roots with the announcement of its Inaugural 2011-12 theater season, which begins this weekend at it's new home in Fort Worth, Texas near the downtown area.
'Billie's Blues', an original stage play written by D/FW playwright diannetucker and directed by Sheran Goodspeed Keyton, follows the incredible yet tumultuous life of the late great American jazz singer Billie Holiday through stories and of course, soul-stirring songs.
Featuring Tamara Stovall Peterson, a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts in the Dallas Arts District whose acting credits include the hit Broadway musical 'Pippen', 'Billie's Blues' premiered in January 2011 at Tucker's Blues and was performed at The Iridium in New York City to critical acclaim.
Here's a sneak preview of Peterson as the incomparable Billie Holiday:
Accompanying Peterson is Grammy nominee blues legend Lucky Peterson with narration by Tyrone King. Due to some adult language, this production is recommended for mature audiences only.
Eight performances of 'Billie's Blues' will take place at DVA Productions permanent performing space, the Pantagleize Theater, located at 1400 Henderson Street, Bldg #3, Fort Worth, Texas 76102 (click HERE for map to theater).
