A new and shocking version of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of depravity, lust, love and horror. On the fog-bound streets of Victorian-era London, Henry Jekyll's experiments with exotic "powders and tinctures" have brought forth his other self-Edward Hyde, a sensualist and villain free to commit the sins Jekyll is too civilized to comprehend. When Hyde meets a woman who stirs his interest, Jekyll fears for her life and decides to end his experiments. But Hyde has other ideas, and so the two sides battle each other in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse to determine who shall be the master and who his slave.
In this thrilling adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, an intimate and frightening production includes a six-person cast with multiple actors portraying the many facets of Hyde's personality.
"Hatcher's adaptation presents a visceral and frightening view of humanity's potential for hate and love," says Theatre Three Artistic Director Jeffrey Schmidt. "I've always been fascinated by how we become different people depending on who we are around. We create characters for each social circle we pass through. I'm reminded of the thrilling, sensual play The Blue Room by David Hare. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is like that but with Victorian sensibilities, mystery, crime, potions and a dash of terror!"
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is directed by Christie Vela and stars Michael Federico (Dr. Jekyll), Natalie Young (Elizabeth Jelkes), Jeremy Schwartz (Edward Hyde #1, Gabriel Utterson), Robert Gemaehlich (Edward Hyde #2, Sir Danvers Carew, Richard Enfield, O.F. Sanderson, Inspector), Cameron Cobb (Edward Hyde #3, Dr. Lanyon, Police Doctor, Surgical Student) and Kia Boyer (Edward Hyde #4, Poole, Surgical Student, Police Doctor).
