Today, Cry Havoc Theater Company announced its fifth season which is expanded to include three productions.
In January 2019, the company will open its newest devised work created under the direction of guest director, Kelsey Leigh Ervi, Associate Artistic Director of WaterTower Theater. The production, currently untitled, runs January 11-19, 2019 at the South Dallas Cultural Center.
As previously announced, in July 2019, the company will present Sex Ed, as part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center's Elevator Project. In Sex Ed, which received a workshop performance in WaterTower Theater's Detour Festival in 2018, the company discusses the birds and the bees and how "the talk" has become so politically divisive in American culture. Performances are July 3-14, 2019 at the AT&T Performing Arts Center's Hamon Hall under the direction of a guest director.
Crossing the Line, the third and final production in the 2018-2019 season, will follow the model of the company's recent success with Babel, a documentary-style production on guns in America. For this installment, Cry Havoc Theater Company will reunite with Kitchen Dog Theater to examine issues surrounding immigration and the crisis at the southern border. In creating Crossing the Line, the companies will travel locally and nationally collecting interviews with individuals on multiple sides of the immigration conversation. Those interviews, along with companies' reflections on them, will offer a glimpse into the emotionally charged, national conversation. The production is co-directed by Mara Richards Bim, founder and artistic director of Cry Havoc Theater Company, and Tim Johnson, Managing Director of Kitchen Dog Theater. Crossing the Line runs in July and August. Venue and performance information will be announced at a later date.
Cry Havoc Theater Company is holding season auditions for interested high school students in grades 9-12 to round out the young ensemble. Those accepted into the company will be cast in multiple productions during the season. Auditions will be held on October 20, 2018 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the South Dallas Cultural Center.
