Circle Theatre Closes SOMETHING INTANGIBLE 7/24

Circle Theatre proudly presents the regional premiere of Something Intangible, a new play by Bruce Graham. Preview performances for the show are Thursday, June 24; Friday, June 25; and Saturday, June 26 (matinee). The production will officially open Saturday evening, June 26 at 8:00pm, followed by a post-show party with the cast & crew.

Under the direction of Matthew Gray, Something Intangible features Regan Adair* (Dale Wiston), Chamblee Ferguson* (Tony Wiston), Daniel Fredrick** (Leo Baxter), Dennis Maher (Doc Bartelli and Gustav Von Meyerhoff), and Nancy Sherrard** (Sonia Feldman).

Production team members for Something Intangible are: Chris "Waffles" Wathen*, Stage Manager; Clare Floyd DeVries, Set Designer; David H. M. Lambert, Sound Designer; John Leach, Lighting Designer; and Cathy O'Neal, Props Designer.

Something Intangible had a critically acclaimed world premiere, April 2009, at the Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The production, directed by Terrence J. Nolen, received seven Barrymore Awards (including Best New Play). In 2008, Something Intangible was also the recipient of a coveted Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award. Previously, Circle Theatre produced four other plays by Bruce Graham, including: Desperate Affection, Moon Over the Brewery, According to Goldman, and Dex and Julie Sittin' in a Tree.

Summary

It's Hollywood, 1940. Two very different brothers struggle to run a studio on the brink of a major movie innovation. One is a visionary and the other a "numbers man". If they don't kill each other first, they will create ... Something Intangible.

Bruce Graham Plays: Burkie, Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar and Grille, Moon Over the Brewery, Minor Demons, Belmont Avenue Social Club, The Champagne Charlie Stakes, Desperate Affection, According to Goldman and Dex and Julie Sittin' in a Tree. His play, Coyote on a Fence, won the 1998 Rosenthal Prize, was nominated for two Drama Desk Awards and played on London's West End, starring Ben Cross. Graham recently returned to acting, playing Lenny in his play, Any Given Monday, at Theatre Exile in Philadelphia. His one-man show, The Philly Fan, plays semi-continuously throughout the Philadelphia area and the premiere production of Something Intangible, at the Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, won seven Barrymore Awards, including Best New Play. Graham's newest play, The Outgoing Tide, was commissioned by Northlight Theatre in Chicago and will open in the spring of 2011, starring John Mahoney. Graham has received grants from the Pew Foundation, the Princess Grace Foundation (Statuette Award Winner), the Philadelphia Theatre Initiative, and the Edgerton Foundation. Along with Michele Volansky, he is the author of the book, The Collaborative Playwright. Graham is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He teaches film and theatre courses at Drexel University and lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Stephanie; daughter, Kendall; and Truman-the-beagle.

Director

Matthew Gray is excited to be back at Circle Theatre, having previously directed the Theatre's second staging of Bruce's recent play, Dex and Julie Sittin' in a Tree. Work at other theatres includes: Gift of the Magi (Classical Acting Company); Humpty Dumpty, Snake Eyes at the Mardi Gras Hotel (Second Thought Theatre); and The Shape of Things (Dallas Theater Center). He will also direct Dallas Theater Center's A Christmas Carol in December 2010 and Kitchen Dog Theater's production of Macbeth in January 2011. Matthew is a member of the Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company at the Dallas Theater Center, a member of Actors' Equity Association, and is represented by The Horne Agency.

Circle Theatre
Circle Theatre's mission is to present contemporary and innovative productions in its intimate 125-seat setting. As a producing member of the Equity Membership Candidacy Program, Circle provides qualifying performance weeks to actors and stage managers. The Theatre also offers internships and apprenticeships in arts administration and production.
