Casa Mañana's critically-acclaimed Apprentice Program presents the Tony Award-nominated musical Side Show at Casa Mañana Theatre, today, July 26-28, 2013.
Side Show is directed by Broadway veteran Director/Choreographer Tom Kosis. Mr. Kosis served as the Associate Director and Choreographer of the original Broadway production of Side Show in 1998, which garnered Four Tony Award nominations including a joint "Best Actress in a Musical" nomination for stars Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner-a first in Tony history. Recent Broadway credits include: associate director and choreographer of the 2009 revival of Bye Bye Birdie(Roundabout Theatre Company), Flower Drum Song, and The Scarlett Pimpernel. Other credits for Mr. Kosis include resident choreographer for Disney's Mary Poppins (Broadway and National Tour) and Director / Choreographer for the National Tours of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Flower Drum Song (Dallas Summer Musicals produced) and Hot on Broadway.
Based on the true story or conjoined twins Violet and Daisy Hilton, Side Show is a moving portrait of two women joined at the hip whose extraordinary bond brought them fame but denied them love. Told almost entirely in song, the show follows their progression from England to America, around the vaudeville circuit, and to Hollywood on the eve of their film debut in the 1932 movie Freaks.
The all-student Side Show cast is lead by Molly Franco and Chloe Voreis as conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton, respectively. Jack Bristol is the Boss; Charlie Ray is Buddy Foster; Bryson Petersen is Terry Connor and Rashaun Sibley is Jake.
Additional Cast members include Megan Broussard, Ellie Hertel, Addie Presson, Mandy Foster, JuliAnna Keller, Natalie Ann Renfro, Mandy Miller, Margaret Vogel, Whitney Pavell, Avery Presson, Addie Morales, Reagan Shankland, Ellie Van Amerongen, Brooke Verbois, Ansley Speares, Lindy Jones, Morgan Roberts, Courtney Lynn, Jack VanGorden, Clayton Slee, Brandon Shreve, Hayden Hart, Ashton Miramontes, Anthony Kirlew and Evan Jackson.
Other creative team members include Jeremy Dumont as choreographer, Andre Cerullo as Music Director, Jonathan "JP" Parke as Sound Designer, Samuel Rushen as Lighting Designer, Katie Dill as Set Designer and Tammy Spencer as Costume Designer.
Conceived in 2010 by Executive Producer and President of Casa Mañana, Wally Jones, the Apprentice Program is an audition-based program for local teenage performers ages 14 - 19. This summer musical gives the area's most talented young performers the opportunity to present a Broadway-caliber musical production, fully staged and produced by Casa Mañana. Past Apprentice Program productions include LES MISERABLES: School Edition, The Secret Garden and Parade. The inaugural Apprentice Program production of LES MISERABLES:School Edition (2010) was hailed as "a musical miracle" by theatre critic Gary Cogil.
Casa Mañana's production of Side Show is presented for a limited engagement at Casa Mañana Theatre. Performance dates are tonight, July 26 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m.
