New York City, 1959. Fading vaudeville comic Chick Sherman, along with his long-suffering agent, tries to revive his career with a role in an avant-garde off-Broadway play. While his grown daughter searches for answers from her absentee showbiz father, a lifetime of private and professional struggles rise to the surface, cracking the polished public persona of the world's favorite former "funny man".'
Bruce Graham's play, Funnyman, wraps up the 2016 season at Circle Theatre. This will be Mr. Graham's seventh script produced at the theatre. Previous productions include Desperate Affection (2003); Moon Over the Brewery (2004); According to Goldman (2007); Dex and Julie Sittin' in a Tree (2008); Something Intangible (2010); and Stella and Lou (2014).
Circle's production is directed by Krista Scott and features Jakie Cabe* (Victor La Plant), Eric Dobbins* (Matthew Baroni), Jacob Grant** (Nathan Wise), Robert Michael James** (Milt "Junior" Karp), Randy Pearlman* (Chick Sherman) and Melissa Rosenberg** (Katharine Sherman).
