Amphibian Stage Productions today announced casting for its summer main stage production, The Understudy, written by famed playwright and creator of the hit television show "Smash" Theresa Rebeck. Chuck Huber, Sarah Koestner, and Carman Lacivita star in this outrageous comedy running July 19 through August 5 at The Hardy and BetTy Sanders Theatre at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.
Amphibian is thrilled to welcome back longtime collaborator, Dallas-based director René Moreno to helm the production. Mr. Moreno directed Amphibian's acclaimed production of No Child… by Nilaja Sun in 2010, which was named the number one production of the year by The Star-Telegram and Theater Jones and the best one-act play of the year by John Garcia's The Column.
DFW-based actor Chuck Huber plays Harry, the title character, who is the understudy for action movie star Jake, played by Carman Lacivita, in this show within a show. Mr. Lacivita is a co-founder and Artistic Associate of Amphibian Stage Productions and has appeared in numerous shows with the company, as well as the recent Broadway production of Cyrano de Bergerac opposite Kevin Kline and Jennifer Garner. New York-based actress Sarah Koestner makes her Amphibian debut as Roxanne, the fictional show's stage manager.
About the Play
The star he's working with doesn't get the play. The disgruntled stage manager happens to be his bitter ex-fiancée. The set technician is high. Just another day in the life of an understudy. The most thankless job in theatre takes center stage in Theresa Rebeck's bitingly funny look at the underbelly of the acting world. Through the course of a dress rehearsal, we glimpse all the genius, bitterness and ridiculousness that underscore a life in showbiz.
The Understudy opens on Thursday, July 19 and continues through Sunday, August 5, with performances at 8 PM on Thursdays through Saturdays and matinees at 2 PM on Sundays. Performances will take place at The Hardy and BetTy Sanders Theatre at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, located at 1300 Gendy Street, Fort Worth, TX 76107
Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students. To purchase tickets, theatergoers may call 817-923-3012, write to boxoffice@amphibianproductions.org, or visit www.amphibianproductions.org.
