Stage West is pleased to announce the 9th annual Festival of the Kid performances, Monday through Wednesday May 7-May 9 in the Studio at Stage West. This unique festival was originally conceived by Rob Bosquez, Jr. and Dana Schultes in 2009, and its first performance was presented in December of that year. Their idea was simple: produce plays written by kids and use their peers as the performers. Since that time, the Neighborhood Play Contest has drawn hundreds of entries, and has expanded to three days, with two performances each night.
Tarrant County students were invited to write a short narrative about a true event from their lives, with themes such as cultural, neighborhood, family or school pride encouraged. The plays chosen were then cast using students, and professionally produced using seasoned designers and directors.
There will be two performances on each date, and each date features a different lineup. They are:
Monday, May 7 - The Force of Wind by Synetra Spencer, Come Crashing Down by Cal Thompson, Finally by Kotone Hiwatashi, Until Time Stops by Taylor Snider, Get with The Program by Cal Thompson, Cat Problem by Abigail Schmidt
Tuesday, May 8 - (Don't) Look Up by Cal Thompson, Sandbox by Evan Doane, Stuck by Janaya Francis, The Lemons by Karrington Davis, True Love: 6th Grade Experience by Lana Yagle, Eidolan Entertainment by Logan Underhill
Wednesday, May 9 - Play: The Stars (scene 1) by Samantha Goldblatt, Cold by Synetra Spencer, The Stars (scene 2) by Samantha Goldblatt, Conform by Joe Westermann, The Stars (scene 3) by Samantha Goldblatt, This is Bias by Katelyn Stokes, The Stars (scene 4) by Samantha Goldblatt, The Heart of Art by Grant Owens
