Under the leadership of John Neumeier, director and chief choreographer since 1973, Hamburg Ballet has established itself as one of the most exquisite dance companies in the world.
Inspired by the scope of Neumeier’s theatrical style-filled with movement, music and visual imagery-the dancers of Hamburg Ballet gracefully and powerfully bring the emotional and physical essence of his production to life.
Hamburg Ballet’s current retelling of The Little Mermaid, written by Hans Christian Andersen in 1837, is a fantastical and dark tale that contrasts a fanciful underwater world with the complexities of life on terra firma. The story is revealed through the tribulations of a young woman who risks everything for love.
Ages: This critically acclaimed production focuses on the deeper, mature themes of the original story and is not recommended for younger children.
