A musical revue of the songs of Jacques Brel, a Belgian cabaret singer-songwriter who composed and performed literate, thoughtful, and theatrical songs that generated a large, devoted following initially in post WWII France and later throughout the world, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well & Living in Paris debuted Off-Broadway in 1968, ran for more than four years and enjoyed phenomenal international success. Brel's insightful and poetic ballads, highly influential to American songwriters like Bob Dylan, spoke of life, death, love and human folly, with bold and often sexually direct lyrics, searing imagery and rhythmic ingenuity.
