The Laguna Playhouse Introduces New Board Leadership

The Laguna Playhouse recently welcomed three new members to its board of trustee's leadership team with the addition of Mr. Tim Carlyle and Mr. Glenn Gray of Laguna Beach and Mr. Justin Myers of Newport Beach.

"All three of these accomplished gentlemen share a rich history of local philanthropic commitments and appointments. We are fortunate to welcome their talent to the leadership of The Playhouse" says board president Henry Mayhew.

Tim Carlyle is a partner in the Irvine based law firm of Songstad & Randall, LLP. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1974 upon graduation from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Mr. Carlyle has extensive experience in a wide range of real estate, commercial, corporate and finance matters. His philanthropic and advisory experience includes service as co-Chair of the Mission Hospital - Laguna Beach Community Advisory Council and is a member of the Mission Hospital Foundation Board. Tim also serves on the boards of First American Trust, FSB, the Orange County Bar Association and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. Tim has also served as a member of the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education, and served on the boards of SchoolPower, The Bowers Museum of Cultural Art and Pacific National Bank (now US Bank). Mr. Carlyle and his wife, Lyn, have two adult children and reside in Laguna Beach.

Glenn Gray has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry and joined Sunwest Bank as President and Chief Executive Officer in November 2005. Previously, Mr. Gray spent eight years with Wells Fargo Bank, holding leadership positions in its retail, corporate banking and investment services divisions. Glenn and his wife, Kathryn, have been residents of Laguna Beach since 2000. Mr. Gray serves on the Board for Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, and is involved in fund raising and awareness activities for Mission Hospital - Laguna Beach. Mr. Gray is a graduate of the University of Illinois.

Justin Myers is an active member of the Newport and Laguna Beach communities and currently serves as the sales and marketing director of the Newport Beach Vineyards and Winery. Justin has also been heavily involved with the Newport Beach Sister City Association since 1997 and has served on their Board of Directors since 1998. Justin also works with the Laguna Beach Sister Cities Association. Justin has a great passion for the arts, culture, and giving back to the community. He serves on the Steering Committee for the Friends of Dorothy Guild which is a fundraising arm of the AIDS Service Foundation of Orange County. Mr. Myers is a native and current resident of Newport Beach.

Executive Director, Karen Wood enthusiastically states "As we further expand our outreach throughout our coastal communities in the coming year, The Laguna Playhouse is thrilled to incorporate the rich and diverse experience that each of these dynamic leaders bring to our Board of Trustees."

ABOUT Laguna Playhouse
Founded in 1920 and celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2011-2012, The Laguna Playhouse is one of the oldest continuously-operating theatres on the West Coast. In January 2011, The Laguna Playhouse was honored at the Laguna Spirit Awards and received The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce Premiere Business of the Year award.

More than 100,000 theatergoers annually attend performances at the Laguna Playhouse. Its continued artistic excellence, audience popularity and critical acclaim have helped make The Playhouse one of Southern California's most important nonprofit theatre companies. The Playhouse has produced national tours of The Belle of Amherst (with Julie Harris) and Copenhagen, and has presented many world, national and regional premieres.

Over the years, the Laguna Playhouse has garnered numerous awards from LA Drama Critics Circle, NAACP, Backstage, OC Weekly, and many more, and was named Best Arts Organization by ArtsOC. Notable names that have performed at The Laguna Playhouse include Bette Davis, Harrison Ford, Charles Durning, Marlo Thomas, Roddy McDowell, Rita Rudner, Cloris Leachman, and Sally Struthers.

The Laguna Playhouse is noted for its Youth Theater, Education and Outreach programs. In 1989, its Youth Theater was recognized as "Outstanding Children's Theatre" by the American Alliance for Theatre and Education. The theater's touring production, TheatreReach, brings books to life on stage for elementary school children throughout southern California.
