The weather is warming and summer is just around the corner, which means movie fans can look forward to another summer of Segerstrom Center's FREE Movie Mondays, returning for its tenth season on the Arts Plaza. Movie-goers can look forward to casual evenings full of fun-filled activities, picnic dinners or specialties from popular food trucks and watching five fan-favorite films on consecutive Mondays. The line-up includes Grease (July 11), Selena (July 18), Elf (July 25), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (August 1) and the most popular science fiction film of all time and any galaxy (August 8). The complete list can be seen on the Center's website at http://www.scfta.org/MovieMondays.
The Center held its annual on-line social media poll for the 'audience choice' film. Center Movie Mondays fans voted for one of three classic movie musicals: The Wiz, Grease and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Winning by a landslide, Grease will kick off Movie Mondays 2016 on July 11.
Families and fans from all over the Southland arrive early for Movie Mondays, claiming their space on the Center's 46,000-square-foot Arts Plaza, enjoying early dinners, music and people watching. Since the movies are projected on the side of Segerstrom Hall, everyone has a great seat. Set-up begins at 5:30 p.m., with the movie starting at dusk (approximately 8 p.m.). Guests are encouraged to bring beach chairs or other easily portable seating items, snacks and picnic suppers. Each Monday will also feature different food trucks serving culinary sensations throughout each screening. Barbecues and similar food preparation are not permitted. Prior to the show (starting around 7:30 p.m.) there are audience participation events. Kia Motors America, the Center's Official Automotive Partner, will be at Movie Mondays with fun activities and prizes to win - don't miss out!
