COSTA MESA, CA - Disney aficionados, film buffs and musical theater lovers can expect an evening like no other when eight-time Oscar-winner Alan Menken comes to Segerstrom Center for the Arts performing his own music and sharing entertaining anecdotes about his unrivaled career. His songs and music have thrilled audiences around the world, and now they will thrill Orange County audiences during the world premiere of his exciting new one-man-show, A Whole New World of Alan Menken, on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 8 p.m. in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

Menken has garnered 19 Academy Award® nominations, 11 Grammy® Awards, seven Golden Globes and a Tony Award®. He has been credited for introducing a whole new generation to musicals through such box office hits as Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Enchanted and Tangled as well as the Broadway shows Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act, Newsies and television's Galavant. This evening of Alan Menken sharing stories and songs from his amazing life and career is making its World Premiere at the Segerstrom Center.

The show is written and performed by Menken and directed by Richard Kraft, who was recently the creative director of the highly acclaimed Disney's The Little Mermaid In Concert at The Hollywood Bowl starring Sara Bareilles and Rebel Wilson. A Whole New World of Alan Menken is produced by Laura Engel & Richard Kraft and Alison AhArt Williams & Tim Fox, whose credits include Nightmare Before Christmas In Concert at The Hollywood Bowl, Disney's The Little Mermaid In Concert at The Hollywood Bowl and Live From Lincoln Center: Danny Elfman's Music From the Films of Tim Burton, which recently won 2 Emmy awards for its PBS broadcast.

Alan Menken's music and lyrics have become an integral part of the fabric of our lives since his first works were produced nearly 40 years ago. His stage musicals include God Bless You Mr. Rosewater, Atina: Evil Queen of the Galaxy, Real Life Funnies, Little Shop of Horrors, Kicks, The Dream on Royal Street, Beauty and The Beast, A Christmas Carol, Weird Romance, King David, The Little Mermaid, Sister Act, Leap of Faith, Newsies, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. Song and score credits for film musicals include The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast, Newsies, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, The Shaggy Dog, Home on the Range, Enchanted, Tangled and Mirror Mirror. Individual songs for film include Rocky V, Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, Life With Mikey, Noel and Captain America: The First Avenger."

Television credits include writing songs for Sesame Street, Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, the ABC mini-series Lincoln, the Hallmark TV special A Christmas Carol, a musical episode of The Neighbors and the ABC series Galavant. His chart topping songs have included "Beauty and the Beast," "A Whole New World," "Colors of the Wind" and "Go the Distance."

Winner of the 2012 Tony and Drama Desk awards for his score for Newsies, he has won more Academy Awards than any other living individual, including eight Oscars with four for Best Score and four for Best Song; 11 Grammy® Awards (including Song of the Year for "A Whole New World"); seven Golden Globes; London's Evening Standard Award; the Olivier Award; the Outer Critics Circle Award and the Drama Desk Award. Other notable achievements include induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Billboard's number one single ("A Whole New World") and number one album (Pocahontas). In 2001, he received the distinction of being named a Disney Legend. He has been awarded two doctorates in Fine Arts from New York University and the North Carolina School of the Arts.

In 2010, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Menken's upcoming works include the Broadway stage adaptation of A Bronx Tale, a City Center's Encores series production of God Bless You Mr. Rosewater, a live-action film adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, Seth Rogen's animated hit Sausage Party, an as-yet-untitled film musical project at Universal Pictures and a live action film version of Disney's The Little Mermaid with additional new songs with lyrics by Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda.
