Before the Backstreet Boys, before Frankie Vali and the Four Seasons, there was a fictional male quartet called The Plaids: Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie. Destined to harmonize their way to greatness, this dynamic quartet performs "the show that never was" during the Costa Mesa Playhouse's presentation of Forever Plaid, April 8-May 8. The musical is directed by Stephen Hulsey.
Forever Plaid is a musical-fantasy about the four young, eager members of a 1950s close-harmony boy band who, killed in a car crash on the way to their first big gig, are allowed to return from the afterlife for one night to perform their dream concert, singing some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the ‘50s. The show's beloved songs include Three Coins in the Fountain, Sixteen Tons, and Love is a Many Splendored Thing.Since its Off-Broadway premiere in 1990, Forever Plaid, written by Stuart Ross, has continued to be one of the most popular musicals worldwide, and is perfect for the whole family. This is the 17th production of "Forever Plaid" for director Stephen Hulsey, who is also musical director. Having worked with some of the original Plaids as well as Las Vegas alumni, Stephen is re-staging the show using the original Vegas choreography.
Forever Plaid opens with a low-priced preview performance on Friday, April 8, with all seats $16. Saturday, April 9, is a gala opening night celebration with a champagne and appetizer reception. All seats are $23. For all other performances, tickets are $18 general admission, $16 for students and seniors, and $13 per person for groups of 10 or more. Forever Plaid plays Fridays & Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm, April 8 through May 8 with a special Saturday matinee at 2 pm on April 23.
