This is a special production of Next to Normal featuring an innovative performance with singing and American Sign Language.Next to Normal was also chosen as "one of the year's ten best shows" by critics around the country, including The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times.With book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt, Next to Normal is a creative, thought-provoking musical which tells the story of a family coming to terms with crisis, relationship and mental illness as it bravely faces the future. With provocative lyrics and a thrilling score, this powerful pop-rock musical has an intense, emotional and ultimately hopeful story which aims right at the heart.Next to Normal will be a shadowed presentation featuring both singing and signing actors, creating not only a vibrant and nuanced production, but also a powerful musical which will be fully accessible to the Deaf community. Join us for this first of its kind collaboration between OHP and the Connecticut Deaf Theatre.Priority seating is available for Deaf/hard-of-hearing patrons and their families.On May 15 there will be a panel discussion and Q&A after the show with the cast and production team about Deaf inclusion in the arts.
