For their first production of their second season, Connecticut Stage Company will produce the groundbreaking American tribal love-rock musical Hair (November 23 and 24, 2024). Leading the cast will be Kevin Clay (Book of Mormon) as Claude, Mariah Lyttle (The Wiz, Bad Cinderella) as Dionne, Ashley LaLonde (Hamilton Nat’l Tour) as Sheila, and Jay Roberts Miller (A Bronx Tale & Tina Nat’l Tours) as Berger. The company will also include Zion Aislee Middleton (Ain’t Too Proud Nat’l Tour), Sarah Kelly (CSC’s Little Women) as Jeanie, Madeline Wong Perez as Crissy, Diego Echeverria De Cordova as Woof, and Christopher Nicolosi as Margaret Mead. The Hair Tribe will include Berlin Lee Charles, Hannah Ellowitz, Janaysia Gethers, Margot Grom, Kaimana Neil, and Leron Wellington.
Hair celebrates the 1960s counterculture in all its barefoot, long-haired, bell-bottomed, and psychedelic glory. With chart-topping hits such as “Aquarius,” “Let the Sunshine In,” and “Good Morning, Starshine,” Hair explores ideas of identity, community, global responsibility, and peace as it tells the story of a tribe of New York City hippies on the cusp of adulthood championing freedom, pacifism, and joy. They must confront a world thrown into chaos when one of their own receives a draft notice for the Vietnam War. Hair remains relevant as ever as it examines what it means to be a young person in a changing world. Hair has music by Galt MacDermot with a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado. There will be no nudity in CSC’s production of Hair.
