The 2019-2020 season of The Met: Live in HD closes Saturday, May 9 with Donizetti’s MARIA STUARDA at 12:55 pm in the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre.
A complimentary 45-minute pre-opera lecture by Dr. Marguerite Mullée will be offered in the Studio Theatre Lobby two hours before the broadcast.
Soprano Diana Damrau, following her triumph as Violetta in last season’s new production of Verdi’s La Traviata, stars as the martyred Mary, Queen of Scots, in Donizetti’s bel canto showcase. Star mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton is her imperious rival Queen Elizabeth I and the silken-voiced tenor Stephen Costello is the noble Earl of Leicester. Maurizio Benini conducts Sir David McVicar’s handsome production.
The Met: Live in HD Season is locally sponsored by Viron Rondo Osteria. The Met: Live in HD Lecture Series is sponsored by Land Rover Hartford.
