No Boundaries Youth Theater, founded in March 2010 as New Britain Youth Theater, will celebrate its ninth birthday on Saturday, March 16, with nine free events between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., and the public is invited to participate.
Festivities will begin in the morning with an open house and open classes during regular Stage Play, Stage Performance, and Improv times. Visitors will watch scene rehearsals and activities, and will can participate in some warm-ups and games. In the afternoon, the theater will hold special classes and workshops in Family Improv, Tiny Tots Theater Playtime, Set Decoration and Design, and Puppetry with guest artists from Elmwood Productions. Varying ages for each program range from 3 to 18. Space will be limited, and registration at www.nbyt.org is encouraged for open classes and workshops.
In the evening, the celebration continues with two parties-a "Get Us Home!" Kick-off Party (with performances and the announcement of the theater's 10th anniversary 2019-20 season) at 7 p.m. and an Open Mic Party at 8 p.m. In addition to the fun and entertainment, the theater will hold raffles, and will serve birthday cupcakes and other snacks and drinks. All events will be held at the company's current studio location at 362 Main Street in Berlin, shared with the New Britain-Berlin YMCA.
"We're most excited about kicking off our 'Get Us Home' fundraising campaign," said NBYT Executive and Artistic Director Darren Farrington. "For nine years, we've been sharing space and we've had performances in different locations from our offices, workspace, and storage spaces. We're looking for a home of our own now in the Greater New Britain area. Donations accepted at our birthday events will benefit the NBYT 'Get Us Home' Fund to help find, pay for, renovate, and move to a new space."
More information about the events and other NBYT programs can be found on the company's website at www.nbyt.org, by emailing info@nbyt.org, or by calling 860-515-8115.
