Yale School of Drama Closes A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE 12/16

YALE SCHOOL OF DRAMA (James Bundy, Dean; Victoria Nolan, Deputy Dean) presents A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE by Tennessee Williams, directed by Charlotte Brathwaite, December 10-16 at the Iseman Theater (1156 Chapel Street, New Haven).

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE features sets by Wan Ki Lo, costumes by Kristin Fiebig, lights by Hyun Seung Lee, sound by Elizabeth Atkinson, and dramaturgy by Anne Erbe.

The cast includes Trai Byers, Will Cobbs, Ben Horner, Andrew Z. Kelsey, Miriam A. Hyman, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Shannon Sullivan.

This production of Tennessee Williams's greatest tragedy interrogates the corrosive power of the American dream. Set in a landscape of urban decline, the dreams of Stanley, Stella, Blanche, and Mitch are invaded as they are launched on a blood-pumping, heartbreaking rollercoaster of sex, power, violence, and nostalgia.

Yale School of Drama will create a behind-the-scenes video that documents the creative process, and also includes interviews with the director, cast, and other members of the creative team. The video will be available at drama.yale.edu, and on YouTube and Facebook.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Charlotte Brathwaite is a third-year MFA candidate at Yale School of Drama. A native of Toronto, Canada, she joined La MaMa ETC's Great Jones Repertory as an actor at the age of 16 and performed in New York and internationally in over 12 countries with the company. As a director, her work has been presented in America, Mexico, the Netherlands, Germany and Croatia. Recently, she directed American Schemes by Radha Blank, commissioned and produced by NYC Summerstage and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at Yale School of Drama. Charlotte has assistant directed at Lincoln Center and Yale Repertory Theatre. She holds a BA from the Amsterdam School for the Arts in the Netherlands and is the recipient of the Lloyd Richards and John Badham fellowships, travel grants from the Dutch government, and a 2010 Princess Grace Foundation George C. Wolfe Award.
