Windham Theatre Guild presents INTO THE WOODS, with music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by James Lapine, originally directed on Broadway by Lapin, and with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. The production kicks off today July 17, and continues 18, 24, 25, 30, 31, August 1, 2015 at 7:30 PM and July 19 & 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Burton Leavitt Theatre, 779 Main Street, Willimantic.
Be careful what you wish for! In his beloved, Tony Award winning musical (recently made into a major motion picture!), Stephen Sondheim puts a modern twist on the classic fairy tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel and ties them together with an original story involving a childless baker and his wife trying to break a witch's curse. All the characters are wishing for something, and some are willing to do whatever it takes to make those wishes come true. But, actions have consequences-even in Happily Ever After. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility, compassion in a menacing world, and the examples we set for the children around us. Funny, dark, lively, adventurous, and beautiful-this show will leave you spellbound!
