Downton Abbey meets Game of Thrones! The Lion In Winter by James Goldman is the next Main Stage production opening Friday, February 9th at the Burton Leavitt Theater.

Lion In Winter is a modern-day classic that features dungeons, adultery and sibling rivalry. Comedic in tone, dramatic in action - the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family who are locked in a free for all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom. queen, and wealthiest woman in the world, Eleanor of Aquitaine, has been kept in prison since raising an army against her husband, King Henry II. With Eleanor out of prison only for holidays, the play focuses on the inner conflicts of the royal family as they fight over both a kingdom, as well as King Henry's paramour during the Christmas of 1183. As Eleanor says, "every family has its ups and downs," and this royal family is no exception. The original 1966 Broadway production was a Tony Award winner, followed by the 1968 Academy Award winning film version.

The Lion In Winter runs February 9, 10, 16, 17, 22, 23 & 24 at 7:30pm, and a Sunday Matinee on February 18 at 2:00pm at the Burton Leavitt Theatre, 779 Main Street, Willimantic. Ticket prices are $19 for Adults, $16 for Students/Seniors, and $12 for children under 12. All UCONN, ECSU & QVCC students (with ID) pay the discounted price of $14. Group discounts are also available. Walmart of North Windham sponsors a Thursday night special. Anyone who buys a ticket at the door on Thursday, February 22nd will pay the kid's price of just $12. This special offer does NOT apply to tickets reserved in advance.
